Children First is a campaign to encourage Government to put children at the heart of all decision-making. Despite increased awareness of rising mental health issues, the dominance of social media and the obesity crisis, there is still no dedicated person with authority to represent children in our Government. Children aged 0-5 do not have a voice in Parliament; they simply do not exist.

We’ve launched a petition to kick off our campaign, influencing Government to begin to listen and understand the issues that 21st Century children face. You can find out more about this petition here.

Our children are at risk of becoming the least healthy adult population in living memory. 21st Century childhood comes with numerous impacts to a healthy lifestyle, such as decreasing levels of physical activity due to the influence of screen time.

In order to achieve a positive change, it’s important that the Government is seen to openly recognise the fact that improving the current experience of childhood for every child is not a luxury but a necessity. Fire-fighting individual issues is not enough; we need a holistic approach that considers the complex, various issues as a whole.

On January 16th 2019, we launched our campaign at the House of Commons with an event hosted by Lucy Powell MP (Central Manchester), with key guest speakers in attendance including: The Children’s Commissioner for England, Anne Longfield OBE, and CEO of the Royal Society for Public Health, Shirley Cramer and Steve Franks, Lead spokesperson for Children First and CEO of Water Babies.

Alongside this, we also launched our public petition. If you want to make a difference to the lives of our children, please sign the petition here and show your support.
